In order to encourage its citizens and visitors to use more energy efficient and non-polluting means of transport, Pingtung City in the south of Taiwan is planning to make available 450 publicly accessible bicycles at 20 Pingtung Bicycle (Pbike) stations around the city. The Pbike kiosks used to manage the bicycle rentals system will utilize Arestech’s BPC-5020 Embedded Box PC.
Requirements:
-
Adapt to changes in the outdoor environment
In Pingtung’s tropical climate, the kiosks will be exposed to extreme weather including high seasonal temperatures and heavy rainfall from typhoons. The BPC-5020 can operate within a wide temperature range of -20~60° C and has a very large heat sink to improve thermal dissipation. It is also IP65 rated to withstand almost all weather conditions.
-
Storage and transmission of large volumes of data
The BPC-5020 has rich I/O connections and expansion via 3G module that enables wireless data transmission. The unit can also be used to collect user-specific information, such as the number of rides, charged fees and rental time.
